MUTOR

Mutor is a mechatronic sound-object in which the sound of a DC motor is controlled and manipulated, in terms of frequency, timbre, and amplitude, through mechatronics and microcontroller programming.
]It is comprised of a DC motor placed in a transparent acrylic box, and a push solenoid mounted on the edge of the box’s only pivoting side. Microcontroller programming is used to control the motor’s rotation speed and the solenoid movements. Different rotation speeds create a continuous range of different frequencies, while solenoid actuations result in shutting or opening the box’s door, modulating the amplitude and timbre of the motor’s sound.
